Here's the starter! We're running from the scientists, and we're confused, as it's ten years later and there's all this new stuff. We are currently hiding in a Dumpster. XD
Arcane held open the heavy lid as we all clambered into the smelly, half-filled confines of the Dumpster. She let it drop, and we all huddled in the putrid darkness, listening as the scientists ran past the alley, shouting for us to come back. They hadn't seen us, thankfully.
There was a sudden hiss of melting plastic, and I realized that Arcane had summoned her fire again, and was holding a flaming Solo cup.
"Are you insane?" I whispered hoarsely.
She turned to face me with a crackle of paper. "Why, yes," she replied calmly,"Yes, I am."
Ilene leaned away from her, shrinking back against the wall of the container. Why are you so weird? she signed.
Sara's breath came quick and fast. "What are you doing, Ilene?"
Alice narrowed her eyes. "'Why are you so weird.' That's what she signed."
Arcane looked at her with a snarl on her face, and I hurriedly put a hand on her shoulder. "Calm it, girl. Alice, how did you do that?"
Her brow furrowed. "I- I don't know. It was just obvious."
Anima sat away from everyone else, her expression lax and long ebony hair spread around her shoulders. Her eyes blinked open, flecks of silvery iris glinting in the semi-darkness. "Your power. It's omnilingualism."
Everyone turned to stare at her. "What's that?" Alice asked.
"Understanding and speaking all languages. You also have electrokinesis. Electricity manipulation."
Alice's eyes bugged out. "Really? You mean if I tried, I could-"
"Wait." Arcane's fingers curled into claws, her voice a raspy growl. "How did you know this?"
Anima's eyes bored into her's. "I am an aura reader. And a hallucikinentist."
"Say what now?" I asked, dropping my hand from Arcane's shoulder.
"I can see into your very souls," she whispered. "I can create illusions so powerful that you would go mad. I can-"
"Okay, hold up." I said. "So if all of us have powers..."
I heard the swish of her hair as she looked over at me. "Poor child," she said mockingly. "You are tormented by the voices in your head, your multiple personalities tearing you apart. You cannot comprehend how complicated and twisted your aura is, layered and streaked with the colors of many."
My skin felt clammy. "How- how do you know that? You can't- I-"
Her mouth curled into a sympathetic smile. "But you do have powers. We all do."
"What are they?" Sara's voice was remarkably calm, considering the circumstances.
Anima turned toward her. "You are a doppleganger. You may take the appearance of others." Pointing at Ilene, she said, "Weapon transformation. You may change instruments of music into weapons. You can also fly." Ignoring her exclamation, she moved on, saying to Astrid, "Teleportation and hyperspeed." To me, she added, "Regenative Healing Factor, and Dynamic Camouflauge." As she dispensed the last power diagnosis, the Dumpster went silent.
"So..." Ilene asked quietly. "What now?"
