Chapter 18- The first invasion
(I forgot to add Growl, who is Foxclaw. In Snarl's flame it will tell you why Hiss isn't here)
"Okay, Wolffrost, Rosepetal, Ivyheart, Sweetfeather, Scarear, Icestorm, Frostbite, Lightingstrike, Hailtail, Hawktalon, Maplemist, Darkshadow, Duskpelt, Dawnfur, Fawnnettle, Brokenice, Dawnbreeze, Lunarfrost, Birdfeather, Hopeblossom, Thornpelt, Lynxear, Pouncefoot, Moonspirit, Bobtail, Fangheart, Clawfrost, Flamefoot, Wildfire, and Fernpool, come with me," Risingstar ordered. "Silvershine, catch up once you've established a back up patrol," he said, then streaked out of camp. Flamefoot yowled with his clan mates as they raced to meet Bearstar's patrol. Flamefoot caught sight of them immediately- crashing through the undergrowth. Risingstar threw himself at Bearstar, and Silvershine appeared, yowling, and launched himself at Stripepelt. Flamefoot found himself facing Cougarpaw, Bearstar's apprentice. Easy. He reared up to swipe at Cougarpaw, but he hissed and ducked, swiping at Flamefoot's legs. Flamefoot stumbled, and felt teeth in his scruff as Cougarpaw tackled him. He felt a blaze of pain as Cougarpaw raked his claws down his back. I shouldn't have underestimated an apprentice! Suddenly the weight was gone, and Flamefoot turned to see Fernpool haul him off. Flamefoot nodded a quick thank you, then tackled Darkwhisker, who was facing Wolffrost with Jaggedfang. Darkwhisker yowled as Flamefoot bit into his scruff and flipped him over. Fury surged through him as he raked his exposed belly. Flamefoot felt teeth in his shoulder, as he was hauled off by Jaggedfang. He twisted in the bigger Tom's grasp, and luckily Wolffrost came to his rescue. Jaggedfang dropped him, and Flamefoot hissed as pain shot through his shoulder. He could feel blood seeping from his wound, but he ignored it as he scanned the battle field. It was hard to tell who was winning and who was loosing. Flamefoot spotted Thornpelt desperately trying to keep Foxclaw, who was Growl, the Tribe of Bones cat, from snapping at his neck. Flamefoot lunged forward, and latched onto Foxclaw. Foxclaw growled and flipped over, trying to knock Flamefoot off. Flamefoot felt the crushing weight of the bigger tom, but he forced himself to bite harder and claw at his flesh. Flamefoot gasped as Foxclaw's body disappeared, and jumped up to help Thornpelt drive him back. "Stop!" Came a yowl. Flamefoot and Thornpelt exchanged a look, before turning towards the voice. It was Risingstar, facing Bearstar. "Say what you have to say," Risingstar said. His ear was torn and bleeding, and he had other claw marks. Bearstar had a few himself. "We want some of your territory. My clan is getting bigger, and we need more space," Bearstar insisted. "You will never have our territory! And in fact, you won't even know victory," Risingstar said. Bearstar narrowed his eyes. "What do you mean?" Risingstar blinked slowly. "We have already sent another patrol to attack your camp. Haven't you noticed none of our apprentices are here? I bet they've raided the medicine cat den and scattered the prey pile by now," Risingstar said. Wait a second- Risingstar is lying! The apprentices are at the Moonlake! It's clever, though. Bearstar growled, and stared at Risingstar. Risingstar returned the stare. Please buy it Bearstar! Please, please, please! "You made a mistake, Risingstar, for I will kill them all!" He snarled, and beckoned for half of his warriors, leaving Stripepelt in charge. He bounded away, fur spiked and bristling. Flamefoot noticed Wildfire slink away. What is she doing? He didn't have time to think about it, for Stripepelt yowled and the clans clashed again. Flamefoot tripped Sootfoot before lunging at Sunclaw. They rolled over before breaking apart. Sunclaw batted at him with sheathed claws. Flamefoot blinked in surprise. "Not everyone believes in this battle," Sunclaw murmured. "Then why fight?" Flamefoot asked. Sunclaw tackled him. "Because most of us are to afraid to do anything else. Cats who don't listen to Bearstar are killed," he whispered in his ear. Flamefoot's eyes widened. "So just look like your fighting me," Sunclaw said as he let go of Flamefoot. Flamefoot nodded and reared up, while Sunclaw flipped him over and bit down on his scruff, but not hard enough to draw blood. As Sunclaw threw Flamefoot, another thought surfaced in his mind. "Why don't you leave?" He asked. Sunclaw looked around to make sure no one was listening. "Fawnheart is going to have my kits, but she's to afraid to move to the nursery after the way Bearstar treated Berryheart. I can't risk trying to escape with her, now that we have more to loose," he said. His voice dropped to a very low whisper. "Shadowy warriors guard the camp. They hear and see everything. There is no escape." Flamefoot shivered. Could he mean Dark forest cats? Flamefoot and Sunclaw whipped around as Wildfire appeared, yowling, with more Wildclan warriors on her tail. She brought re-enforcements! "Drive them towards the river!" Risingstar yowled. Before they could, Stripepelt yowled, "Spiritclan retreat!" The Spiritclan warriors turned tail and fled after their deputy. Flamefoot watched Sunclaw go. The Wildclan cats threw back their heads and yowled in victory, but Flamefoot couldn't bring himself to join them.
