Frostkit and Snowkit were the first to greet the returning patrol. "What happened? What was it like? Did anyone fight? Is the clan in trouble? New apprentices? Kits? Warriors?" They began bombarding the cats with questions. "Frostkit! Snowkit! Get back here," said Honeydew, voice stern but eyes full of love and affection. The two kits hesitated, then decided it was best to listen to their mother. Frostkit was a snow-white she-kit with Amber eyes. Snowkit was a white she-kit also, but had soft golden paws and blue eyes. Blizzardtail looked over at Redclaw, but he was already slipping into the warrior's den. He frowned. Some thing's up. Before he could make a move, Firepaw skidded to a halt in front of him. "Did you see Moonspirit?" The flame-colored apprentice asked eagerly. "Um... no," Blizzardtail replied. Why does she care? The she-cat's tail drooped. "Oh," she muttered, and walked away. Blizzardtail sighed and walked over to the fresh-kill pile. There wasn't much on it, but he plucked a vole-a rarer find- from the bottom and headed for the apprentice's den. He nosed his way inside. He found Redclaw curled up in his nest. Blizzardtail dropped the vole by his nose and nudged it closer to him. "Brought you some fresh-kill," he said. Redclaw opened his eyes and sniffed the vole, then closed them again. Blizzardtail sighed. "Do you want me to leave you a lone?" He asked. Redclaw didn't reply, so Blizzardtail took that as a yes. Outside, Ravenpelt called him over. "I want you and Redclaw on the dawn patrol tomorrow. Icetail will be leading it," she said. Blizzardtail nodded, and turned back towards the apprentice's den. When he got inside, he realized Redclaw really was asleep this time, along with Thornheart, Amberfeather, Foxsnatch, a sleek black Tom with orange-yellow eyes, and Blackbird, a smaller black tom with gray-blue eyes and fur that seemed to never lay completely flat. To his relief, the vole he brought Redclaw was gone. Blizzardtail thought about curling up in his own nest, but decided against it. Backing out of the den, he headed back over to the fresh-kill pile. Oakpaw was the only other one by the fresh kill pile. Blizzardtail grabbed a rabbit and settled somewhat across from him. "There's not much, but Cheetahstar sent out a hunting patrol," said Oakpaw, hooking up a mouse with his claws. The prey-pile did look pitiful, and now that he thought about it he could tell the rabbit was rather stale. Blizzardtail finished his food quickly- as to avoid conversation with Oakpaw, got up and stretched. "Well, cya tomorrow," he yawned. Oakpaw flicked his tail. "Ya, goodnight."
Blizzardtail nudged Redclaw with his paw. "Wake up, were on the dawn patrol," he said. Redclaw muttered, rolled over, and batted him lightly with his paw. Blizzardtail nudged him harder in the ribs. "Gah!" Redclaw scrambled to his paws. "I'm awake, I'm awake!" He said, and started grooming himself. "Redclaw we're going to be late!" Blizzardtail hissed. "But I need to be clean," frowned Redclaw. Honestly, what has gotten into him? "Fine. Meet me by the fresh-kill pile," he grunted. Blizzardtail turned and headed out of the den, and padded over to the fresh-kill pile. It had been restocked last night, so he had plenty to choose from. He picked a mouse, and devoured it. Icetail, Berryheart, Blackbird, and Hollyshine, a brown she-cat with a dappled pelt and yellow eyes, were already waiting by the entrance. Blizzardtail glanced over to the warriors den, and fortunately saw Redclaw slipping out. He strutted over to the fresh-kill pile, and devoured a sparrow in a few famished bites. Blizzardtail stifled a laugh as feathers clung to his nose. Redclaw swiped them off, then headed over to Icetail's dawn patrol. Blizzardtail followed. The cool breeze felt good, as it whispered through his fur. Though he missed his sister and father in the forest, he never regretted moving to the meadow. There was just so much open space to run! He could tell all the warriors were a little jumpy, and Blizzardtail could feel the beginning Leaf-fall chill creeping into his green-leaf pelt. Icetail flicked her ear. "I guess it won't hurt to get warmed up on a little run to our borders," she said. Flicking her tail, she started off at a run. The warriors followed her, tail's streaming behind them. Blizzardtail flattened his ears against his head as he ran. Glancing down, he saw his paws were only a blur. He wanted to yowl with joy. As much as he loved this run, he had wanted to talk to Redclaw. Oh well, I'll do it later. In no time the first border came in sight: The Wildclan border. Icetail slowed her pace, and so did the rest of the warriors. When they neared the border Blizzardtail picked up a fresh scent of Wildclan. Suddenly a patrol came into view. The patrol was lead by Duskpelt, a long-haired orange tom, and what was unique about his pelt was it got lighter towards the top. "Hello, Icetail," he dipped his head to the mostly white she-cat with Sapphire colored eyes. The cats with Duskpelt were Thornpelt, a black Tom with green eyes, Moonspirit, a white tom with dark orange ear tips and paws they almost look red, and golden tail tip with hints of orange and green eyes, Blossomheart, a honey colored she-cat with white on the tip of her tail, chest, stomach, and paws, and Amber colored eyes. Blizzardtail also spotted his sister, Pumapelt. Lastly Raincloud, a gray-blue tom with blue eyes and flecks of black scattered on his pelt. Raincloud's sister, Cloverface, was Spiritclan's medicine cat. "Duskpelt," Icetail dipped her head to him. Icetail signaled for Redclaw to refresh the markers. Redclaw strutted up, chest puffed out, and eyes on Pumapelt. Why is he acting so bee-brained? Then it hit him. Redclaw likes Pumapelt!
When Redclaw finished and the patrol set off again, Blizzardtail fell into step beside him. "What is wrong with you?" He hissed in his ear. Redclaw blinked guiltily. "Nothing." Blizzardtail flicked his ear. "You like Pumapelt, don't you?" He said. Redclaw sighed. "Yes. If only she could have come to Spiritclan! I don't think she likes me, anyway," Redclaw said. Blizzardtail never heard his friend sound so miserable. "Don't feel bad. I don't think Pumapelt likes anyone," Blizzardtail told him. When Redclaw didn't look convinced, he added, "Not even Flamepaw." Redclaw straightened up. "Okay," he said. "But remember, she's in another clan. You must not break the warrior code," he said. This seemed to bring Redclaw's spirits down again. "Well, it's not like your the only cat. I'm pretty sure Firepaw likes Moonspirit." They were both silent the rest of the patrol. When they made it back the camp, Firepaw bounded over to Blizzardtail. "Did you see Moonspirit
