Chapter 16- point of view, Aphrodite
Aphrodite dug around in her bag, sure she had at least one piece of jerky left. She emptied it all on the ground, spotting the wrapped up jerky. She picked it up and frowned. Ants were crawling all inside it. How? It wasn't even open! Stupid darkness. She threw it into the trees, and heard the leaves rustling as it fell. Wait, that's not the jerky. She dived behind a boulder, reaching for her katanas. She spotted a person walking through the trees. Hands curled around a tree trunk, and a head peeked out. Aphrodite's heart leapt. Tigris! She's still alive? She made a hand motion, and other SAMBers appeared. Aphrodite grabbed the top of the boulder, intending to climb it went she tripped and fell with a thump. She peered through a crack and watched as Tigris' cat ears twitched and she looked over to her hiding spot. Aphrodite held her breath, and Tigris looked away. I have to make sure she's not darkened. As they got closer, she could start to make out who the other SAMBers were. Ocean, humming a Hamilton song. Silver, who looked completely bored and annoyed at life, Ashes, who kinda has a similar expression, but more 'life is over we're all gonna die.' Kitten, attempting to give an inspirational speech about how that if they fail they can all die together, which no one was listening to, and others. Dogfly yelped as she tripped on the rocky ground and fell. She stood up and brushed herself off. "I wish the ground wasn't so rocky," she muttered. A girl with white hair, ice-blue eyes and pale skin that Aphrodite didn't recognize looked back at her.
"Look on the bright side, at least trees are alive here and not everything is dead." Dogfly jabbed her with two green bullets.
"Enough of your bright sides," she grumbled, but she didn't sound mad. Definitely not Darkened, but what are they doing? The curiosity was to much. As the group passed, Aphrodite jumped out of her hiding spot and landed behind the group. They all turned around in one sharp motion at the same time. Ok.... freaky.... but what ever. Tigris pushed her way through the crowd to face her. She looked her up and down, then smiled.
"Aphrodite! Your alive and not darkened! Wonderful! Like to join our little parade?" She asked. Aphrodite wasn't sure if that was sarcasm or not. She made herself look skeptical and crossed her arms.
"What exactly is your little parade doing?"
Tigris rolled her eyes. "Going to meet Santa Claus. No! We're going to stop the Darkness," she said, laughing until she reached the last part. Her gang gave her what the he** is Tigris laughing? Looks.
"You think you can do this.... by yourself?" Aphrodite asked.
"Nope. But we're going to try anyway or else the whole SAMB is doomed," she said. Aphrodite blinked.
"Also you might want to know three SAMBers have died and two have been Darkened from our group," Silver added. Well, at least they're honest.... but..... do I really want to do this? They could all be walking straight into a death trap. On the other hand, it seems like they all care about each other and won't leave one person for dead......
"Alright. I'm joining," she said, surprising herself.
"Great! How's your supplies?" Tigris asked.
"Low. I usually summon things and then get a move on before the Darkened cloak faces come," She responded.
"Oh. Well, this is to close to Anaia's island to summon things but later we can," Tigris said, then turned around and the group started walking away. Aphrodite noticed the pale frost-bitten looking girl was still staring at her.
"Quit it, Frost-face," she snapped. The girl snorted.
"Its Frostbite," she walked over to Tigris and they walked next to each other. Oh. They're friends.... maybe that was a bad move but I don't plan to apologize. Aphrodite grabbed her pack and followed the group of SAMBers. I really hope this wasn't a bad idea.
