Chapter six-point of view, Grace
Grace sat in a tree, letting her feet dangle over the side of the branch. She had made sure she picked a tree far from everyone else. They had finished burying Night Robin, so now no one knew what to do. They seemed to be all waiting for Tigris to say something. First no one wanted to listen to Tigris, now they all look to her to make decisions. Grace looked over at Tigris, who was leaning against the trunk of another tree. She was examining her razor-sharp claws, without looking at anyone. She had avoided everyone's eye contact after Night Robin's burial. Instead of doing something leader-like, she leaned against the tree and started picking dirt from her claws. She had stayed this way for hours, and dusk was falling. Quicker then normal, but everyone was used to that by now. Grace unsheathed her own claws. They were caked with dried mud still. I should probably start cleaning them, to. She didn't though, instead she looked around at everyone. She looked at Blaise, who was sitting quietly. She had her hands out, close to a fire. Anyone would think she was warming her hands, but really she was keeping the fire going. The fire that was meant to cook lunch. And dinner. Except, no one was in the mood to eat. Grace hadn't had breakfast, she wasn't even hungry now, she just felt hollow inside. No way is Blaise going to be the next one Darkened. She's just to innocent. Storm was nearby, sitting cross-legged. She had her hands folded, and her brow was furrowed as she stared at something in the grass. Storm's pretty freaked out about this. I doubt she'll be Darkened. But then.... Puppy was to, and she became Darkened. Poor, poor, Puppy. No one had ever expected her to become Darkened. Well, it's not really her fault, is it? It just happened to have happened to her. Cassy, Silver, Kodah, Ashes, and Dogfly were all sitting together, talking in hushed voices. Swiftstar hovered nearby, watching them through slitted eyes. Kitten trotted over to Blaise caring a rabbit, and dropped it by the fire. Grace was surprised Kagami wasn't with Cassy, Silver, Kodah, Ashes, and Dogfly. They were the group of SAMBers considering leaving. "How long would they make it on their own, do ya think?" Asked Danny. Grace whipped her head around and watched as Danny talked to Blitz. He gestured to Cassy's group.
"Not very long, I 'suppose," Blitz replied with a yawn.
"I-I'm certainly not leaving," said Anaia, playing with a strand of her hair. Freya was looking back and forth between Blitz and Cassy's group. She's still deciding if she wants to leave or stay. Faith stalked towards Tigris with Frostbite and Twitch. She was holding a few berries. Faith waved her hand in Tigris' face. Tigris didn't respond, and Faith let out a growl. She stalked away and Frostbite and Twitch exchanged glances. Ocean and Cleo both occupied themselves by messing with their weapons.
"Alright! That's it," shouted Tigris, and everyone jumped. Grace fell out of her tree and landed with a hard thump. Ow. She stood up and dusted herself off.
"What was that for?" Swiftstar demanded, putting her hands on her hips. Tigris ignored her.
"It's time we made our decisions. I'm not leading a bunch of people who only have half their mind made up," Tigris said.
"We're staying," Kodah blurted out.
"What?" Said Silver.
"'What' Silver? What is, if you don't want to stay you'll be off on your own with a bunch of darkened SAMBers hunting you down," Tigris said.
"I was going to stay, Geez, you don't have to be like that," Silver said, grumbling. Well, Tigris didn't give her much of a choice. She better knock that off.
"So I 'suppose we're all staying?" Tigris asked. Everyone nodded slowly. Now what? "First off, we need food. Faith, you can take Kagami, Cleo, Kodah, Dogfly, and Ocean to go collect some more berries. Frostbite, I can tell you want to collect more herbs. Does anyone want to go with her?" Tigris asked.
"I'll go," Twitch offered.
"Me too," piped up Anaia.
"Ok, we'll need one more person. Freya, will you go with them?" Tigris asked. Freya nodded. Tigris then paused. "Wait, is anyone injured?" SAMBers slowly started raising their hands. Tigris sighed and rubbed her temples. She walked over and pointed at Ocean. "What's wrong with you?" She grunted. Ocean looked startled.
"I have a slash on my arm. That's it," she said. "Frostbite!" Tigris hollered. Frostbite rushed over. "Bandage Ocean, we have work to do," she said. Frostbite eyed Tigris for a second, then took out bandages. Wow, Tigris. So sympathetic. Tigris stalked over to Cleo and cleared her throat.
"I have a few bruises, but I think I'll be fine. Oh, and a particularly painful gash on my leg that won't get infected, so I'm fine," she said sarcastically. Tigris scowled and beckoned Anaia over. Grace had a cut on her shoulder, but she wasn't about to tell anyone. Kagami, Freya, and Faith needed to be treated to, since they were the first ones attacked. Tigris looked around.
"I thought more being were hurt. Guess not," Tigris shrugged. Ok, so, my friend Tigris isn't my particular favorite right now, but I think we'll be fine. "So that means Kagami and Freya can't go. Faith obviously you'll lead your troop if I say so or not, so go ahead. Blitz and Night-" Tigris stopped and sighed. "Blitz and Danny can fill up Kagami's and Freya's spots. Kitten, come with me and we'll hunt. Grace and Swiftstar, come to. Blaise and Storm, be ready to cook. Everyone else, guard the camp."
