Chapter 12- point of view, Dogfly
Dogfly finished scooping the last of her freeze-dried spaghetti and meatballs into her mouth and walked over to the water. The water gurgled peacefully, it made her almost forget the whooshing of the air as she fell and the sound of her plunging into dark water. She dunked her dish and spork into the water. It was chilly and refreshing, considering the air temperature had risen just as they had finished cooking food. A drop of sweat rolled down her cheek from her forehead and dropped into the water, with a tiny splash. Dogfly watched the ripples spread as she finished cleaning. The water was so tempting, she just had to lower her face into the water and feel the coolness. She was just about to when she felt a tap on her shoulder. She looked around to see Faith. "Tigris wants us all to come hear what our next move will be," she said. Dogfly nodded and stood up, using her small, green, flying bullets to carry her things. She walked away from Faith to retrieve her backpack, and still zipping it closed, walked back over to Tigris.
"Alright. Rue says there is a tunnel in that cave, but she's never ventured that far before. Me and Kitten sense life on the other side. We say we go that way. Or, we could follow a thin rocky trail that also leads to who knows where. Let's see a show of hands for that," Tigris said. Only three hands rose. "Good. Tunnel it is," Tigris said, turning away. Dogfly caught the words, "as long as it doesn't get to small." The SAMBers followed, knowing there was no use arguing.
"Well, glad everyone took a bath in that water if we're going to be stuck in a cave together," said Silver.
"I second Silver," Cleo added. They were quiet for the rest of the way until they reached the small tunnel. It was dark.
"Ooh, it looks so friendly they almost didn't need a welcome sign," Ashes said sarcastically.
"Blaise," Tigris said, ignoring Ashes. Blaise picked up a stone, and cupped her hands around it. After a few minutes, it lit up in flames. Twitch used his mind to make it hover in front of them as they walked, because apparently Ashes didn't feel like it.
"Really hope nothing to dangerous is at the end of this- no, Danny, get away from me I'm not taking any chances after you pushed me off the cliff," Dogfly heard Blitz say from somewhere behind her. Danny muttered something inaudible. Dogfly snapped her fingers and a green bullet hovered next to her. She directed it to poke Grace's back, who was walking in front of her.
"Uh no, I don't need to walk with that poking my back thanks," Grace said. Dogfly chuckled and made it stop. The tunnel was wide enough for two people to walk side by side, but only if they were close together. Everyone choose to walk single file. Dogfly stretched her arms out and let her fingers brush the wall as they walked. Dogfly caught a whiff of something herb-like, and drew in a huge breath through her nose. Lavender, marigold, and- mint? Dogfly squinted, and realized she could see light up ahead- and not from Blaise's stone. Dogfly shielded her eyes at a sudden dazzling of light. She blinked, and gaped. Rolling green hills, plants and animals galore. She heard an excited gasp from Anaia.
"I know what this place is! It's the Echo Temple!"
