SPIRIT ANIMALS NEWSPAPER: WHAT’S HAPPENING ON THE FORUMS AND IN THE GAME
This week’s random article topic: Writing
Writing a book?
There’s a lot of talk about people who have written a book, or are writing a book and will publish it once it’s done. Now, unfortunately, I have to say that it is likely that all of those people are wrong, and won’t publish a book. If I am wrong, then that’s great! Congradulations! But I’m just going to say what I have found after hours of research.
First of all, only 1/10,000 writers are actually published successfully. It’s the disappointing truth. You can’t just say that you are writing a book, and expect to get it published easily. For those that actually have this happen to them, that’s great! And I don’t want to discourage someone, or sound like I’m doubting your talent. If you think you are good enough to publish a book, no one should stand in your way. But a book often takes years to write. Also, there has so far, as much as I know, only one person in elementary/middle school who has published a book with many readers. And that’s Nancy Yi Fan. But I might be wrong.
But besides, Nancy Yi Fan was very lucky. She sent her manuscript to the president of HarperCollins, and it didn’t end up in the junk pile. Actually, almost always, manuscripts from new authors are only read when submitted by a literary agent.
Why am I even writing this article? I have no idea. But I felt like it’s something I needed to just put out there. But if you want to publish a book, you can! If it’s rejected, publish it on kindle. There’s always a plan B. But to publish a book, you need to read books. Use punctuation and proper grammar. Work on description. Most of all, don’t let anyone stop you. I could write this going on and on and on…. But I won’t.
