Hey dudes! I'm INSANELY EXCITED to finally be able to tell you about a multiplayer mode we've been working on for Spirit Animals . . . VERSUS MODE!
We've been so happy to see how many of you have been enjoying the SA multiplayer features. And the more we thought about it the more we realized that it would be pretty AWESOME if we created a mode where you could compete against each other . . . and the result was this new versus mode. We are still working on it so it is not fully ready, but we are fairly close to being able to release this for you all to enjoy. As such i wanted to take some time to explain the new mode and answer any questions you might have about it.
What is Versus mode?
Versus mode is a new 2 vs 2 multiplayer feature, where you will get to team up with a friend and compete against other Spirit Animals players.
One team will be the Greencloaks and the other will be the Conquerors. (Note that you will use your hero even if you get sorted to the conqueror team, it's just a label for the match)
The main objective of Versus mode is to destroy the opponents base. You can see here that I was on the Conqueror team and this it the Conqueror base. Look at those spooky buildings!
A base consists of a total of three buildings - 2 towers and 1 Headquarters. You'll need to destroy your opponent's headquarters to win, but a good strategy is to take out their towers first. Towers will fire arrows at you when you get close to them so be careful! Destroying towers is important to give you a clear path to the headquarters.
When the game begins, each player will start in their team base. One team will be randomly assigned to defend and the other to attack. You can see in the image below that my team started out on defense first, noted by the defend icon in the top middle of the screen.
When you are on defense you'll want to defend your towers and headquarters. The attacking team will have a couple of soldiers to help them, so staying near your towers will give you some extra fire power as you try to defeat the soldiers. Once you have successfully defeated the soldiers, the phases will switch and your team will attack while your enemy scrambles to defend.
As mentioned above, the attacking team has some soldiers to help them destroy towers. So when it's your team's turn to attack (noted by the icon in the top middle of the screen in the picture above), follow your soldiers into battle and try to do some damage on the enemy towers. Sound easy? Well don't for get that there will be two actual SA players trying to stop you!
This back and forth switching of attack and defend will continue on until one team's headquarters is destroyed.
There is a mini map in the top right of the screen that will show you a birds eye view of the battlefield. It will show the status of your towers as well as your enemies and will note the location of players in the battlefield. It's good to check the mini map from time to time.
But wait there's more! On the far left and right of the map you will find a stone circle. Every once in a while these circles will spawn a powerup! You can collect these powerups to give your hero a temporary advantage.
We've been playing this mode a lot in the office and it's really fun! It's pretty exciting to go up against other actual SA players and we know you guys will enjoy it as much as we do. So start getting excited because Gavin and I are a pretty good team and we'll be looking forward to challenging you guys when the mode is released :)
Feel free to ask me any questions you have about the new mode, Ill do my best to answer them!
