Never mind, I'll just post it right now and hope it goes through. Chieko, I'm trying not to control Kaine (your character) ???
I slowed down and started walking, at a normal but brisk pace. The forest was an unwinding maze, and sometimes I felt as if I was going in circles. But I was certain I wasn’t, though.
Just to make sure, I checked the visual map in my head. Nope, I was getting closer to my intended destination.
Luckily, the trees seemed to be clearing out a little, and I soon found out why. A path! For an instant I pondered whether or not to stay on the path or, like I usually did, steer off it. Nah, I thought. I should stay on it for a while, or it may take forever to get to the center, anyways.
I walked on it for a while, then started running again, since my breathing was back to normal. Then I heard something… a rustle of paper, the brush of something against something else; and I froze, listening. Nothing. Every hair on my skin stood on end, and my muscles were taut, ready to run. But nothing else happened.
I finally mustered up courage to step out—but not before I grabbed a big branch just in case.
But I regretted taking the stick once I saw what—who it was. It—she was a girl, with honey-colored skin, and narrow shoulders. I noticed she was sitting with her back completely straight. Her hair was silver—not white, I was pretty sure, because it glinted in what light there was.
She didn’t seem to notice me, because she was so indulged in reading her book, while I, on the other hand, just stood there awkwardly, not sure what to do. Hide the branch behind my back so if she saw it she would think it was some kind of rowing paddle? Or just run as fast as I could and hope she thought it was the wind or something?
