Maci hummed to herself while walking in the hallways of the school to her locker, passing by some juniors along her way. She stopped by the locker, turning the locker and the combinations very the satifisying click of it unlocking. Maci swung the locker door open and started to pull her history and english book when someone slammed their hand on to her shoulder, making her pause what she was doing and she sighed.
"Something wrong today? Sense some problem is occuring in our town and we need to save everyone again? Shall I call up Eric and Tom and tell them that the math test wasn't canceled and we should all panic?" Maci said turning to see Jek smiling bright at her.
"I wish, if only the math test was cancelled, it would make today even better but gotta do what we gotta do." Jek said and watched as Maci finished taking out her books and closing her locker door. "So, I heard we have a sub today in English so that will be interesting. oh, and there's a Laccros game after school so I'll be busy then."
Maci raised her eyebrows at him. "You seriously think I wouldn't forget about your game? What do you think I'll be doing then, having a life?" She joked and Jek nodded as they headed into their math classroom.
Walking into the room, Maci passed by some kids before sitting down in her seat, second row, two seats from the door while Jek sat behind her. The bell rung and the kids chatted quietly among them. Maci drummed the edge of her desk for a few minutes and sighed, resting her head on her proped up elbow. Five minutes into class, there was talk around the classroom that in ten minutes, they'd be able to ditch class. Jek was chatting with Eric, who was sitting three seats from him towards his right. The room got quiet in a rush seconds later and a unfamilar voice spoke loudly.
"Settle down, your teacher isn't here today so I'm filling in. Lucky for you, I don't have to teach thanks to a certain special pop quiz. No cheating as I pass them out," the male voice said and the sound of papers being passed out could be heard. "Try to get it all done by the end of class."
Maci looked up as a paper was passed to her and she froze, feeling offly confused. The man was roughly in his early twenties, blue eyes, black hair, very tall, facial stubble, and rather handsome for a subsitute teacher. And yet, she couldn't help but feel like she knew this guy before today. Maci turned back to her quiz and started answering it. A kid to her left raised his hand after ten minutes into the test. The man, who was leaning against the blackboard reading a book, sighed and without looking up spoke.
The kid was startled that he knew his name and Maci watched the two with interest, as did the others around the room. "Uh, where can we turn it in ...sir?"
"On the desk, like normal quizzes," he said without up, "And you may call me Mr. Yaren."
After reviewing her quiz a second time, Maci stood up and followed a fellow classmate over to the teacher's desk and turned in her quiz before walking over to her seat. On the way back to her seat, she caught Jek staring at her, only, she realized it wasn't her he was staring at but Mr. yaren. For a brief second, she could have sworn she had seen Jek's eye change color but the color in his eyes had disappeared seconds later and she blinked before sitting down. The bell rung shortly after and Maci waited for Jek to pack up but he waved her away, saying he needed to grab something and would take too long for her. She shrugged in reply and turned to leave the classroom and walked down to Mr. Michee's history classroom.
Jek Sanders and Derek Yaren
He sat there, packing his backpack for a few minutes as Maci left and the moment she was out fo the classroom, he stood up and with his wolf speed, he closed the door in a snap before grabbing his subsitute's collar and held him against the wall. He growled and glared at him and Mr. Yaren just raised his eyebrows slightly before gently prying Jek's hands off him.
"I see that you're happy that I'm back in town." he replied to Jek's glares as he straightened his shirt and took a step toward where he had set down his book on the teacher's desk. Jek stood back from him and watched him carefully.
"Derek, what are you doing here? You're suppose to be in New York, we had an agreement." Jek said, taking as much control as possible from not strangling Derek's throat.
"Deep breaths Jekson, deep breaths." Derek said and turned pick up his book. "You know, when I left Sterling after the whole 'no supernatural allowed spell with the expection of those who are good and stuff' I'm surprised to find a dark mist here and with you being an Alpha I'm shocked you haven't done your duty to get rid of it."
Jek stared at him. "What are you talking about? Sterling has been safe for over a year, no supernaturals or murder cases, all the people who live here are happy and peaceful again. This is one of the humans last safe heavens and you think an evil spirit managed to get past the boarder wall?..." jek stopped and stared at Derek. "How did you get back in? You said you wanted freedom from this town to find your sister and that you were fine not being in the pack anymore."
"Listen Jek, this safe heaven for humans isn't as safe as you think. I came back because I followed the tracks of a a pack fo supernaturals coming this way," Derek said and dropped his book on the ground and stared directly at Jek,"they were being led by a Crocotta."
"So, we faced a Crocotta, the last one just wanted to find out who ti really was, to belong somewhere. He wasn't our enemy, so why think this one is too? And of all places, why at the school? The town doesn't know about supernaturals and if you break the code we agreed upon, it's not me you'll have to deal with it."
Derek turned sharply to stare at Jek and stalked up to him, staring down at him. "You don't get it do you, they weren't coming here because they wanted to find a better spot from the city and live normally like more supernaturals, they were coming here because something has woken here and attracted them like a beacon. Like a giant mountain of light had just been created and drew all moths towards its way. Something dangerous has awoke here and it's drawing attention whether or not people want it to. I onyl realized it because I started tracking the pack after learning that it was a ambivalent group." Derek paused, seeing Jek's confused look. "They weren't all from the same species. Some were from the canines part of the naturals while the rest were caprids, Pachyderms, primates, Procyonids, serpants, you name it."
"So? Times ahve changed, supernaturals live in harmony since of four years ago after an agreement upon the code. Supernaturals can't take advatage of naturals, we all know it, heck I hear it from Livvy as she's out seeing the word with her brother." Jek argued back.
Derek shook his head. "It's unnatural even for the supernatural to go in groups or packs with different supernaturals. Some of them would kill each other due to their past heitages. Whatever drew them here, they won't be the last and they're breaking in. Haven't you felt the currents of magic here strengthen in the last few days?"
"Alright, so mysterious awaken creature as woke up from it's nap, correct me if I'm wrong, and is drawing other supernaturals to come here but they can't come in due to the barrier so what are we suppose to do?" Jek asked, crossing his arms over his chest and looked at the desk lost in thought. Jek looked up at Derek, waiting for an answer. "What are we suppose to do?"
Derek didn't reply for a second and stared down at the door. "Maci was her name?" Jek immeditely felt himself get a bit unsettled and watched him more carefully. "Doesn't know does she?" Derek said and turned to face Jek. "You haven't told her what you even are have you? All those times she helped solve murder cases, you kept her out fo the dark from finding out the truth."
"Leave her out of this." Jek said, staring at derek calmly. "She has no need to know about anything."
"Jek, almost the whole world knows about supernaturals, except for the last nineteeth safe heavens which are protected by boarders, and you could barely turn into an Alpha without killing anyone and you think you can stop one kid from knowing your secret? You really must like her if you want to keep her in the dark for so long."
"What do you want me to do then?" Jek said with a worried expression. "I don't want her to get mixed up like how I was, I don't want to get her hurt."
Derek nodded and stretched his shoulders for a second. "Good because I need you to fuel that helpfulnees attitude to me and to help stop whatever has just awoken in your town."
"You already know what it is don't you," Jek concluded and Derek gave a half nod.
"It's something we don't want to mess with and is going to be trouble to stop," Derek said. "it's a Warak’in, Shunka Warak’in. Every known fact about them is utterly bare but after talking with Rick and his fellow druid friends, they looked into the future and only gave me the name which was a Shunka Warak’in and that it has been asleep for over four hundred years."
"So what do we know about it?" Jek said, shifting his feet for a second.
"That it needs to feed on human flesh after being asleep for so long." Derek said and switched glances from Jek to the door. "Which means it's going to go hunting tonight if not evening."
[Okay, so yeah, confusing? Yep, this is the semi backstory -notreally since it's happening now- of how Jek, Maci, and Derek all move to the others. But first, they gotta figure out how to stop this 'Shunka Warak’in' or otherknown as "the beast" in some legends. The three of them are going to piece this puzzle. And this this is a modern mythology/supernatural role-play, i thought adding in the parts of human safe-heavens, places without magical creatures, would add a good setting for some. Basically, mroe will be explained about the Warak'in as it goes on but it draws the power of other supernatural creatures..as it feeds on the feelings of pain and chaos and strife. Hopefully after three or four more on going, the three will have some character developments and they will meet up with others, or some might even be drawn to their location.
-Barriers - basically mean a witch of powerful history cast a spell over the humans as protection, one of the very last ancient spells for the human race in case a full blown out war between the mythology and supernaturals went to war against one another. they can't go in without certain reasons.]
-Also, Derek and Jek have a history together (kinda like brothers) thought Jek might not always trust Derek all the way, in the end, Jek will help him like everyone else because Jek cares about everyone.
And yeah, I've decided to have Jek crush on Maci cuz mroe character development. (They're best friends for three years)
MODS please let this through. :)
