Hello fellow Greencloaks!
This is Tui Sutherland, author of the Wings of Fire series and the fifth book of Spirit Animals: AGAINST THE TIDE. I am SO SO excited for you all to read this book, and I’m also excited to come chat with you on these forums over the next month! I saw some of the awesome questions you’ve already posted, which I can’t wait to answer.
Especially this one: Who is the traitor? Oh, that’s easy. I can tell you that right now. It’s . . .
HA HA HA, just kidding! Just being totally evil. You know you have to read the book to find that out! J
Here’s a question for you guys: which would you rather have as a spirit animal?:
A. A dragon
B. A warrior cat
C. A Great Beast
D. A shapeshifting bear
E. A griffin cub
F. A small pile-of-fur dog named Sunshine
I can’t even decide! My actual spirit animal in real life is Sunshine, who is snoozing on a beanbag in my office right now, totally inspiring me to go to sleep instead of doing my work. Thanks very much, Sunshine.
A dragon would be awesome because then we could fly around together and set fire to my enemies! Er, not that I have any enemies. But IF I DID, then WATCH OUT. Unless it was a SeaWing dragon, of course—but then maybe it would give me the power to breathe underwater, which would be excellent.
Or if it were an IceWing, maybe it would give me the power to not be so COLD in the wintertime. It’s the middle of summer here, but after all the blizzards last winter I’m still eyeing the sky like, “I know you’re planning to snow on me any minute, you nefarious clouds.”
Or a RainWing—oo, the power to camouflage myself! That would be pretty much like invisibility, so I could sneak around and spy on these nonexistent enemies of mine. J Actually, I might use it to go watch some of my favorite authors write without bothering them. I’d like to know if anyone else drinks as much tea as I do, or spends as much time chatting online with their sister about So You Think You Can Dance. (I’m sure they all do, right? Seems like an essential part of any writing process.)
But if I had to pick a non-mythological, non-fictional, not-my-actual-pet animal to be my spirit animal, I’d choose a slow loris. They’re nocturnal (like me!) and omnivorous (like me!) and cuddly-looking (like—hang on…) with adorable fingers and huge eyes, and I hope it would give me the power to climb trees and lull my enemies into a false sense of security…before I BITE THEIR HEADS OFF! Mwa ha ha!
(It’s possible I spend too much time with dragons.)
I hope you all keep coming back to chat with me! And I really hope you like book 5 – only a few more weeks until you can read it! Yay!
